Students enrolled at City Hill and Hillside Middle Schools along with parochial schools in the Borough will receive NHS course selection sheets and the Program of Studies booklets (PDF is downloadable below) in January or February. NHS students will not receive printed copies of the Program of Studies. All students, along with their parents, should devote some time to read the Program of Studies booklet carefully. In February, teachers will be signing course registration sheets. Placement in the four academic core courses is based on a specific criterion determined by district administrators. Students are recommended for honors or standard classes based on criterion referenced tests, grade point averages, and teacher recommendation. In addition to the core classes, freshmen are required to take one semester of physical education and another semester of Health. Students are encouraged to take a World language and an elective. At the grade eight orientation which is held in the fall, students have an opportunity to hear about the various course electives. Questions about the course selection process can also be directed to Eileen Mezzo, Dean of Academic Program at (203) 720-5402.
