Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) Air Force Junior ROTC is a four-year program for high school students that provides an aerospace science program coupled with leadership and citizenship training. Each year is divided into two categories: academics and leadership. Academic studies include: AS I: A Journey Into Aviation History; AS II: Global and Cultural Studies: AS III: The Science of Flight: AS IV: The Exploration of Space. Leadership studies include Air Force customs, cadet corps activities, study habits, time management, and communication and citizenship skills as well as drill competition movements. Students are required to wear the Air Force uniform provided to them one day a week. Enrollment in AFJROTC does not require any student to incur an active duty service commitment following graduation. Our academic subjects are rotated every year to include one of the following: AS I: A history and social studies course which acquaints students with the development of flight, the role of the military in history, and development of flight from ancient legends through the present. AS II: A multidisciplinary global and cultural studies course and also a history and social studies related course that introduces students to various regions of the world from a geographic, historical and cultural perspective. AS III: A science course on flight designed to acquaint students with the aerospace requirements of flight, principals of aircraft flight, and navigation. Discussions also focus on the atmosphere, weather, the forces of lift, drag, force, and thrust, and the physiological effects on the human body. AS IV: An exploration of space course which examines science related issues about our earth, the moon and other planets, the latest advances in space technology, and the continuing challenges of space exploration and manned spaceflight. AEROSPACE SCIENCE I: Elective Credit 1.0 (open to all grades): Note--students will earn history/social studies credit for this course.
