Did you know that there are 17.6 million young people in the United States who want or need mentors? To meet this demand, hundreds of new mentoring programs are started each year. We are pleased to announce that Naugatuck High School is now offering a mentoring program. It is an opportunity available for those who wish to make a difference in the life of an adolescent. A mentor is an adult who cares, has time to listen and believes in the adolescent. This relationship helps a young person see that they are valued as a person and are important to society. Mentoring helps keep young people off drugs and in school. Mentor activities focus on character development, academic success and school to career preparation. It only takes a few hours per month to make a difference in the life of a young person. Best of all, you will see not only what mentoring does for them, but also you will see what id does for you.

The following requirements must be met if you would like the opportunity to be a mentor at Naugatuck High School:

1. Completion of an application

2. Personal interview

3. Consent for Criminal background and reference checks

4. Orientation training

5. Minimum of a ten month commitment

Ongoing support and training is provided to assist mentors with concerns or situations that may come up. The mentor coordinators have been trained by The Connecticut Mentoring Partnership, a program of The Governor’s Prevention Partnership.
