LIBRARY HOURS

Mon, Tues., & Thurs. 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Wed. & Fri. 7:25 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

The Resource Center is a central repository for print and non-print materials and equipment which serve the needs of the faculty and students. The materials are designed to supplement curriculum in all subject areas.

The Resource Center features a large reference area, a computer lab, two Macintosh multimedia rooms, and the Spectrum on-line card catalog as well as ten subscription databases that can be accessed both locally and remotely through the library’s webpage.

SIRS Knowledge Source contains periodical databases with magazine and newspaper articles as well as maps, government documents, and some reference books. Facts on File’s The Reference Suite enables students to access the latest information in science, issues and controversies, the world almanac, and world news digests. Poetry, short stories, essays, speeches and plays are available through the Litfinder databases. WebFeet Online helps students to locate curriculum-related websites. ProQuest provides students with access to the New York Times from 1851-2001 as well as American periodicals from 1740-1940. The Connecticut Digital Library (iCONN) allows students to retrieve information from periodical and reference sources and numerous databases on health and wellness, business, biography, and readers’ advisory. Vault Career Library provides students with access to over 100 education (college and university) and career guides.

Students may use the media center’s computers for accessing the databases and the card catalog, for word processing, for creating spreadsheets, for making PowerPoint presentations and Publisher brochures, and for using the Internet. Two rooms to create multimedia presentations will be available sometime during the 2008 - 2009 academic year. Students and parents will need to sign forms before students can use multimedia equipment.

The Resource Center is open both before and after school (Mon., Tues., and Thurs.) to provide additional student access to resources. See hours below.

The mission of the library media program is to prepare students to become effective, responsible and critical users of information, to encourage the appreciation of literature and reading for pleasure, and to support the curriculum of the school by providing access to information covering a wide variety of topics, levels of difficulty, and formats, both inside and outside the Resource Center.
