Students are required to take three years of Science. The Science Department offers established curricula which focus on scientific reasoning, the scientific method, content knowledge, laboratory skills and real-world applications. All science classes promote logical reasoning, problem-solving and informed decision making. Physical Science, Biology and Chemistry are offered at the honors, college preparatory and general levels, and Physics is offered at the honor’s and college preparatory levels. Advanced Placement Biology and Chemistry are available, and the department offers several electives for students in grades eleven and twelve. A comprehensive knowledge of scientific reasoning and concepts is essential for success at the post-secondary level.
-
Honors Level: The honor’s level course provides an in-depth study of the content area and the scientific method. Students are expected to perform multi-step laboratory experiments and write comprehensive reports. The expectations and pace are rigorous. For Biology, Chemistry and Physics this level offers double lab periods once per week. Honors level chemistry and physics require a comprehensive knowledge of algebra.
-
College Preparatory Level: The college preparatory level provides a comprehensive study of the content area and the scientific method. Students participate regularly in laboratory experiments and are required to document all steps of the scientific method through written laboratory reports. For Biology and Chemistry, this level offers double lab periods once per week.

General Level: The general level course teaches the essential knowledge and skills associated with the content area and the scientific method. Students participate regularly in laboratory experiments and write complete laboratory reports. Regular attendance is essential so students may master the basics and succeed in future science courses in high school and post-secondary education.
